TEMPERA POWDER PAINT	TEMPERA LIQUID PAINT
2/3 paint powder	Shake bottle well.
1/3 water
1/8 liquid starch (i.e. Glide)
Shake until smooth in a container with a lid. For thicker paint, stir in liquid starch until desired thickness is reached. For easier clean up, add a few drops of liquid detergent.	Pour into a container and dilute with water to desired consistency stirring until smooth. Add a few drops of liquid detergent for easier clean up.

How to do it:

• REMEMBER- children up to about age 9 have no need for the realistic use of colors
• DON’T attempt to show the young child how to draw or paint (unless you are showing them how to make a stylistic mark using a brush or how to get paint on or off their brush) as this seriously interferes with their growth and development in art
• DO relate to the child’s art on the child’s terms by asking such questions as:

"Can you tell me about your picture?"

"Where were you when this was happening?"

"Who else was with you?" etc.

"How did you make the paint do that?"

• GIVE lots of praise and encouragement to promote a sense of pride and self-worth within the child
• WASH brushes in warm sudsy water immediately after use
• dry in a bucket with bristles up in air to prevent bending of brushes
