TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION

Family:

discuss what a family is, how many members are in their family, relatives, adults, children, infants, teenagers, etc. discuss the many types of families around today

Body Parts:

how all the body parts make up a human being, discuss why you have a head, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hair, brain, legs, arms, toes, fingers, blood, bones, skin, etc.

Abilities:

encourage discussion of things the children are capable of doing on their own, ie. dressing, going to the bathroom, brushing teeth, brushing hair, standing, sitting, eating, thinking, etc.

The Senses:

touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing, body parts used to do all of these things, people who have lost their sight, hearing, etc. and how they are able to cope

 

SETTING THE MOOD

Books:

about small children, dressing, feelings, senses, problems, neighbors, foods, etc.

Displays:

make displays of toys, foods, clothing, grooming aids, family trees, centres that encourage children to do simple tasks ie. combing hair, setting the table, feeding dolly, dressing in dress up clothes like a mommy or a daddy or other adult role model

Posters:

of animals, toys, foods, oral hygiene, role models ie. doctors, dentists, teachers, etc.

Speakers:

have grandmas and grandpas come in and share stories of their childhood, show and tell of favorite toys, movies depicting family life, young children, handicapped children, wheelchair users, take a trip to a dentistís office, a doctorís office or clinic for a check-up, go to a barber shop, a bakery, etc.
