Colors, Numbers & Shapes
TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION
Colors:	discuss colors we see, colors in nature, examples of colors of flora, fauna, camouflage, variations of colors, rainbows, mixing colors, opposite colors, warm colors, cool colors, sad colors, happy colors, loud and soft colors
Numbers:	practise counting, associating numbers with objects (ie. how many is 3?), grouping, ordering, things that we use numbers for (ie. age, height, weight, length of things, money)
Shapes:	familiar shapes like circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, octagons (stop signs), irregular shapes, recognize shapes in things around them (ie. signs, houses, roads, buildings, vehicles, etc.)
SETTING THE MOOD
Books:	any books depicting colors, numbers, shapes, alphabet books, counting books, books about road signs, patterns, poetry, etc.
Displays:	rainbows, bright posters, colored balloons, collages of colors, assorted numbers and examples of how many they represent, big numbers, small numbers, fancy numbers, shapes of all sizes, pictures with shapes outlined on them (ie. a picture of a house with the triangle, square and rectangle shapes within it outlined in felt pen or windowed some how)
Posters:	illustrating bright colors, posters of hidden things to find (ie. a picture of a tree with a task of finding the ten bunnies hiding somewhere in the tree, posters of signs, abstract art
Videos/ Trips/ Speakers:	films or videos of counting, alphabet, shapes, numbers, colors (ie. art films), trips to an art gallery or museum of art to see colors in pictures, shapes in statues and sculptures, an artist to talk about colors and shapes and how to create them and use them, a nurse or technician from a well baby clinic to show measurements done on babies and young children to monitor their growth
