a pre-cut ‘boot’ shape from colored paper for each child
assorted family magazines with pictures of people
children’s craft scissors
white glue or glue sticks
crayons
What to do:
tell the rhyme:
There was an old lady who lived
in a shoe
She had so many children she
didn’t know what to do
She game them some soup without
any bread
And spanked them all soundly
and sent them to bed!
The Old Lady Who Lived
in a Shoe (paper
& magazines)
discuss rhyme with children - why did she spank them? etc.
tell them that they are going to make a picture of this rhyme
pass out the background ‘shoe’ to each child (explain why
it looks more like a boot than a shoe since in the olden days this
is what some shoes looked like)
pass out magazines and explain that the children are to find
as many pictures as possible of children who might have lived in the
shoe
encourage children to cut them out and glue them onto their shoe
or boot (you may want to pre-cut out people for younger children
in a rough way and let them do some minor cutting)
encourage children to look for a picture of a lady who could
be the mother in their shoe or boot
