You will need:
- a set of popsicle
sticks
- a set of curves
cut from margarine lids
- a piece of
paper with the numbers 1 through 10 printed on (for
reference purposes)
- a shoe box
to store the game in
What to do:
- show children
how they can build numbers with the popsicle sticks forming the straight
parts of the numbers and the lids forming the curved parts
- children can
either make the numbers on top of the example chart or they can build
them separately and then compare them to the chart
- children could
then count out popsicle sticks or other items (ie.
bread tags, buttons, shells, macaroni, etc.)
to represent the numerals and to show their knowledge of just ‘how
many’ 5 (etc.)
really is!
