You will need:
- a large-sized
play space
- balloons, balls
- ropes, sawed
off hockey sticks
What to do:
- pass out the
round objects
(ie. balloons or balls)
- encourage
play by giving children ‘round’ movements to do with their objects
(use
words like: roll, spin, rock, bounce, etc.)
- next, collect
the play items and tell children they are to turn their bodies into
balloons or balls and try and do the same actions
- repeat the
various movement suggestions and encourage children to move their
bodies accordingly
- pass out sticks
or ropes (make
sure children understand the rules for using them, ie. not for hitting
other children with!)
- encourage
children to make their ropes or sticks do ‘straight’ movements like:
tilt, sway, rock, slide, stand, point, etc.
- then collect
objects and repeat movement instructions encouraging children to respond
with body movements
