You will need:
- a medium to large-sized
play space
- a bean bag for
each child
What to do:
- turn all the
bean bags into ‘Bean Bag Buddies’
- have children
hold their buddies carefully in their hands
- (children could
talkk to their buddies, assign a name, etc.)
- tell children
their little buddies are great little travellers and like to move
around the room but s they have no arms or legs, they need the children
to carry them
- experiment
with various movements holding the bean bags ie. on back of hands,
on shoulders, on stomachs
(go on all fours),
on piggy back rides, on feet (slide
on bottoms), etc.)
- if anyone
should accidentally drdop their buddy on the floor, stop the game
and make sure buddy is okay, (get
the owner to pick their buddy up and give him/her a hug, etc.)
- as the final
activity, encourage children to give their buddies a ride on top of
their heads!
N.B.
By encouraging children to identify with their beanbags in this way, they will
move carefully and be acutely aware of their balancing skills without realizing
it!
