various farm animals; the sounds they make; the food they eat or produce; where they live; how big or small they are; how they are useful to man; the names of their young.

Pets:

various types of animals people keep as pets; what they eat; what you do to care for them; what their young are called

Zoo Animals:

what zoos are for; what kinds of animals live at the zoo; how are they cared for; who feeds them; what do they eat; why are zoo animals so special?; what are the names of their young?

Wild Animals:

what constitutes a ‘wild’ animal?; where do they live?; what is camouflage?; why is it important to wild animals; who looks after them; feeds them; how do they survive?; where are wild animals found? what should you do if you see a wild animal?; why are wild animals so important?; what are the names of their young?

SETTING THE MOOD

Books:

animal picture books; stories of animals; farm animals in picture books; books on wild animals

Displays:

set up displays using various animal posters; stuffed animals if available; encourage children to draw a picture of their favorite zoo animal or pet and display them on the wall; have animals in cages ie. rabbits, mice, gerbils, etc.

zoo animals; wild animals; farm animals; birds; baby animals

Speakers/

Trips:

personnel from a zoo; animal shelter; veterinarian’s office; pet stores; sanctuaries; local farmers; etc.
