Squirrels
You will need:
- enough chairs, hoops,
rugs, bean bags, etc. for each child to use as a home (less 3)
- a large playspace
- music
What to do:
- pick 3 children to begin
the game (they are all new squirrels who just moved to town)
- the other children choose
a 'nest' from the scattered articles
- tell them that when they
hear the music, their feet like to dance and so they get out
- of their nests to dance
around
- when the music stops, their
feet quickly take them to a nest any nest to rest!
- the 3 new squirrels will
also be searching for a nest to rest in so there will not be enough
nest to go around
- start the music and encourage
children to move around
- stop the music and encourage
children to find a nest to rest in
- any children left without
a nest become the new squirrels in town quickly begin the game again
so as to avoid tears or pouting
Special Note:
- Some children become VERY
attached to their nest and create quite a fuss when another child
invades it try to encourage children to share and not to mind being
the new squirrel once in a while keep game moving quickly so they
are not disappointed for any length of time!
