pre-cut wings
from yellow tissue paper (cut in a figure 8 shape)
a darning
needle
white glue
or glue stick
What to do:
pre-poke holes
in toilet rolls for antennae (on top at one end), 6 legs (underneath),
1 hole at back (underneath or same side as leg holes)
pre-cut up
pipe cleaners into pieces for: 2 antennae, 6 little legs, 1 stinger
(all pieces could easily be the same size)
tell children
they are going to be making a bumblebee
pass out pipe
cleaner pieces and tell children they are going to be used for the
bumblebee’s antennae, legs x 6 and a stinger
pass out toilet
rolls and encourage children to find the pre-poked holes for the antennae
at one end of their roll - poke in the pipe cleaner pieces
next, locate
the 6 leg holes and poke in the pipe cleaner pieces and gently curl
the legs as if they are tucked up for flight
next, have
children draw on facial features at the antennae end of their roll
now, color
black and yellow stripes around the other end of the toilet roll
encourage
children to glue the tissue paper wings carefully across the centre
of the bumblebee’s back by applying a small amount of glue in a stripe
through the centre of the figure 8 pattern to allow wings to gently
flap up and down (if using a glue stick, apply glue to the roll
rather than the tissue paper to avoid tearing)
finally,
poke the stinger pipe cleaner piece into the hole at the back of the
roll
