pre-cut
ovals from light-weight cardboard (ie. chip or cereal box)
hand-held
hole punch
crayons
twist
ties or 3" lengths of yarn
What to do:
pre-cut out long
thin oval shapes from chip or cereal boxes
punch holes all
around the edges of the oval shape
tell children they
will be making a little centipede
pass out ovals and
crayons
encourage children
to draw segments on their centipedes and to color them in
encourage children
to use twist ties for their centipede's legs by twisting them into the holes
provided OR
let children practise
their knot-tying by providing lengths of yarn to be tied through the holes
label work and clean
up
N.B. Knot-tying
can become quite tedious for young children so this could be done as a project
over a week or a month (ie. each time the child cleans up or helps, he/she ties
one more leg onto his/her centipdede)
