What to do:
- tell children
to find their own space
- ask them to
think about when they go for a drive with their mommy or daddy in
their car
- ask what you
have to do if you see a "red light?
- encourage
them all to yell out, "STOP!"
- then ask what
you have to do if you see a "green" light?
- encourage
them to all yell out "GO!"
- tell them
that they are all going to drive their cars now
- ask them to
think about what color their car is
- everyone get
into your car, close the door
- fasten your
seat belt
- put your keys
in the ignition and start your engines
- Brrm-Brrm"
(foot
on the gas pedal)
- next, try
out your brakes, "Errch!"
- remember the
rules, RED LIGHT - STOP! GREEN LIGHT - GO!
- leader calls
out, "Green Light, GO!" and everyone drives around the room
with sound effects
- then leader
calls out, "Red Light, STOP!" and everyone slams on the
brakes with sound effects
- REMIND children
to drive saafely and not to crash into others
- when children
have had enough, call them over to one area of the play space to ‘park’
their cars, take out the keys, undo seatbelts, get out of the car,
close the door, pick up your car and...THROW IT OVER YOUR SHOULDER!
(just
because it’s fun to do!)
