You will need:
- a paper plate
for each child
- a flashlight
- a sheet of
manilla tag or old file folders
- a pencil
- white glue
- scissors
What to do:
- pre-draw a
doll-shape on the manilla tag (approx. 3 to 5" tall)
- encourage
older children to cut their own doll out
- fold bottom
of doll under about 1/4 to 1/2" to make base
- glue base
to centre of paper plate
- turn off lights
and turn on flashlight
- hold flashlight
over doll at various angles and watch shadow of doll lengthen and
shorten (just as our own shadows lengthen and shorten at different
times of the day)
- at the highest
point, the shadow will be the shortest (ie. noon)
- encourage
children to experiment with this
- label work
- clean up
