You will need:
- a medium-sized
play space
- a radio or other
form of music
- hula-hoops for
each child
What to do:
- tell children
they are going to play a game that is similar to ‘musical chairs’spread
hula hoops out on the floor
- play the music
and when the music stops, encourage each child to find a hula hoop
(space ship)
and place one foot inside it
- repeat to
make sure all understand - also reinforce the idea that no one space
ship belongs to any one person
- play music
again saying, "This time, I’m going to take away a space ship
so somebody will have to share with a friend!"
- when music
stops, encourage children to hurry and find a spaceship to step into
- praise the
two children who end up sharing
- play music
again and repeat procedure
- keep taking
one hoop away each time and continue encouragement of sharing
- at end of
game, the whole group should end up with a foot inside one space ship!
