You will need:
- a clear plastic
glass for each child
- potting soil
to fill each glass 2/3 full
- spoons to
dispense soil
- grass seed
- small watering
can or jug
- colored paper
pre-cut into circles or ovals about 3" x 4"
- children’s
craft scissors
- pieces of
masking tape on wax paper (ready to use)
- crayons
- newspapers
What to do:
- cover table
surface with newspapers
- tell children
that they are going to make a little monster face for their plastic
glasses and then they are going to plant some grass seed that will
grow into the monster’s hair!
- see if they
can predict what color hair their monster will have!
- encourage
children to draw a monster face on their piece of paper
- then tape
the monster face to the side of the plastic glass
- encourage
children to carefully fill their glasses 2/3 full of soil
- they will
not know how much 2/3 is so it would be helpful to demonstrate how
full the glass should be
- let each child
sprinkle a small handful of grass seed over the top of their soil
- pour on a
little water - keep moist and in sunlight for 7-10 days
- encourage
children to check on their monster’s hair every day
- don’t forget
to keep monster’s hair MOIST!
- label if necessary
