a piece of
colored construction paper for each child
crayons or
water based markers
1 x 1"
colored tissue paper squares OR small cotton balls OR
rice puff cereal
white glue
or glue stick
What to do:
pass out papers
and crayons to children and tell them that they are going to make
a spring tree (or
pussy willow tree)
first you
would like them to draw a big tree on their paper and then later they
can glue on the buds (or pussy willows)
try not to
be judgemental about what their trees look like
preschoolers
have very definite symbols that they use to represent familiar things
within their world
when they
have drawn their trees, show them how to use the tissue paper squares
to make pretty little buds or flowers on their trees by scrunching
it up (or use cereal puffs or cotton balls)
if pussy willow
trees are being made, encourage children to glue the liittle cotton
balls onto their tree branches
the cotton
balls can be daubed with color by using the marker pens or by using
colored chalk (hold the cotton balls firmly and rub chalk into
them) if the children so choose
