two pieces of
yarn or string for each child approx. 24" in length
one handheld
hole punch
one exacto knife
one stapler
with staples
chip boxes or
cereal boxes
scissors
tinfoil
masking tape
What to do:
staple the
open end of the milk cartons shut
using the
exacto knife, cut out (adults only please) a round hole in
one face of the carton near the flat end (or base) of the carton
large enough for a child's foot to fit into
cut two parallel
lines down the milk carton from the edge of the round hole to form
the 'tongue' of the skate (see illustration)
punch holes
along the edges of the 'tongue' cuts to permit shoe lacing
repeat on
other carton
cut out four
long blades for each child (older children may enjoy doing this
themselves)
give each
child four pieces of tinfoil long enough and wide enough to cover
their blades with
children
cover with tin foil and then attach their skate blades to each side
of their cartons using masking tape
then the
children thread their yarn through the holes and lace up their skates
children
may now don their skates and proceed to slide around the room in them.
Special Note:
younger children
find laces hard, so just make a foot hole with no 'tongue'
