two long
paper rolls for each child (i.e.
the kind Christmas wrapping paper comes on)
two old knee
high panty hose for each child
paints and
paint brushes and newspapers
an exacto
knife
What to do:
precut the
cardboard boxes into long strips of cardboard approx. 4" x 15"
with a point at one end (like
the tip of a ski)
cut two little
notches in either side of each 'ski' at about mid point to help keep
the 'panty hose fastening straps' in place
encourage
children to bend one end of each of their skiis upwards carefully
children
decorate their skiis by painting them
children
may also decide to paint their ski poles to match
when skiis
and poles are dry, the children lay one leg of hose under each ski
before standing on the ski, then they simply tie the leg of hose over
their foot or shoe so their ski stays on.
repeat for
the other ski
then, children
are ready to slide around the room on their new skiis using their
poles to help them to balance.
Special Note:
encourage
children to only paint the top side of their skiis (this will
prevent unwanted paint streaks on rugs and other floor surfaces)
